Baking. Baking is something both my Gran and Grandma both loved. So much time spent learning the craft of the perfect bake, from shortbread to fairy cakes to scones to all the tips and tricks. Eg, to make Golden Syrup easier to get out of the jar, just heat a tablespoon in hot water, then dip into the syrup. Both of my Grandmothers were my real life very own Mary Berry x2, just called Mary and Dorothy respectively. Baking requires patience, especially when teaching 6 year old me who liked to make quite the mess.
I recently had my Grandad to stay, so what better way to spend an afternoon then making scones. So simple, yet one of the best old school bakes around. Just add some raisins and cinnamon for a slight twist. Slather on some cream then jam and your good to go.
Scones also smell amazing when cooked and fill the flat with the most homely of smells. The recipe hasn’t changed much over the years. I swear by Mary Berry’s scone recipe .
This cake plate is rather special to me. Here is to many more bakes to go onto it!
