Ship It Cake.

Ship It Cake

When your team at work find out you can bake, know that you live opposite a shipyard and happen to mention the upcoming development day known as Ship It day, the result is quite simply a cake shaped like a ship. Did I mention there was 40 odd people on my wider team? Yupp, challenge accepted.

I decided to keep things simple, doubling the recipe for Mary Berry’s Victoria Sponge which would make the hull, then using a single recipe of the coffee cake for the sails.

The sponges were then left to cool and expertly cut, aiming to waste as little cake as possible but still retaining the shape. And the mast and boom were made of chocolate fingers.

The hull was dyed a red/pink after the current red paint of the hull, which I look out onto.

Whilst the sail was number 145154, which was my sail number, that I used to write down nearly every weekend during race season.

I was definitely pleased with the final outcome of the ship cake! Now to see how the next ship-it day cake sails.
