My housemate Alice had her 21st Birthday last weekend, and she asked me to make her the Sweet and Salty Chocolate Cake from Hummingbird Bakery’s Cake Day Recipe book. She neglected to tell me, how long this cake took to make.
I started making it at 6pm on Friday night, and did not finish till near midnight, with the help of Alice and Ben. The recipe needed salted caramel, caramel and chocolate frosting and 3 layers of chocolate sponge cake. The process was not helped by our inability to find an electric whisk. Unsurprisingly a Kitchen Aid Mixer is on my one day purchase list.
I had a slight freakout when the cake was not picture perfect and each layer was slightly crooked. Some dirty icing, and another round of icing later, the cake is at least smooth. All be it not perfect!
The cake was amazing, so if you are up for a challenge/giggle give it a try.
As you can see Alice loved the cake!
