Before last October, I had never toucher Aperol. Having seen it all over Instagram, I knew I had to try it. I loved the spritz but somehow love the Aperol Negroni even more.
Think of Aperol, as the Italian cousin of Pimms. Photo-friendly, available to drink in many guises, good with lemonade, soda, fizz.
It’s such a simple drink, despite the first image you don’t even need a cocktail shaker. This is one best mixed slowly with a stirrer. The original negronis use vermouth, but some quick googling found Sauvignon Blanc works just well.
To a short tumbler filled with ice, add:
- 1.5 shots Aperol
- 1.5 shots gin – I used Caorunn
- 1.5 shots wine or dry vermouth
Top with a garnish of ice and keep stirring until the glass is sufficiently cooled by the ice.
Looks like a glass of Irn Bru to some, I can guarantee it is not. These tumblers were given to me by my Grandma a few years ago. I had them in my flat but never used them. Turns out she knew best as they are the perfect size for old fashioned type drinks, or an Aperol Negroni!
