It’s the start of yet another year, which means the inevitable New Years resolutions. I’m instead focusing on my 2017 Fitness Goals. The goals themselves are hopefully achievable. Last year I managed to complete all my running goals but not the gym ones. This year, I am going to set aside Sunday evening for the three gym based goals, followed by a few lengths in a pool.
I have signed up for my first ever marathon and scared is an understatement. The furthest I have ever run is 16 miles, 10.22 miles below what will be needed on May 21st in Stirling. For this I would like to complete it in under 4 hours, but having never run the distance, have already set a realistic goal by saying I want to complete the Stirling Marathon. However, for the 10KM and 1/2 marathon, I have time goals set for this year. Sub 45 and 1:42 respectively. My previous PBs are 46:17 and 1:43:02, so hopefully I can shave off a few minutes for both distances.
The goal I am least looking forward to? The dreaded foam roller. I will happily go away running for an hour, will happily be at the gym sweating. Ask me to take a day off and spend an hour foam rolling?! No way! Admittedly, this needs to change. I have a foam roller, that just sits in my room gathering dust. This year I will learn to use it properly and will start to incorporate using it to create a stretching routine.
Importantly, I have not set myself a target weight. Running has increased my weight on the scales, not decreased it. My legs are somewhat toned and defined, which means muscles, which in turn increases the weight.
Have you set yourself any fitness goals?
