CAU has recently opened up in Glasgow, opposite Royal Exchange Square and it does exactly what you expect of an Argentinian steakhouse – steak and red wine. I was invited to a steak and wine masterclass here last week and was really impressed with the knowledge the chef had about all the different cuts of meat, rest times for them etc. He explained that the cattle in Argentina are descendants of the Aberdeen Angus cows. I spoke to my Grandad about this, who was a farmer in Aberdeenshire back in the day and he said how you could make a pretty penny years ago exporting your cattle to Argentina.
We were given small samples of 3 cuts of steak, rib-eye, sirloin, and rump as well as 3 different malbecs to try from various regions in Argentina. The steaks were incredible, will definitely be back for a full meal.
This was my favourite of the 3 wines we sampled. Admittedly, I would not pick the bottle up if I saw it in the supermarket but that goes to show don’t judge a book by its cover!
I love the motto of this wine, drink me! Reminds me of Alice in Wonderland with the labels on the bottles.
