8 weeks of marathon training complete. Definitely seen all the weather; snow, ice, wind and rain. Not sure which is my least favourite. Although if you are out in howling wind you wish it was rain or anything but the weather you are having.
Saying that ice really isn’t nice. After a fall in marcothon I have been particularly wary of the ice. My training is a mix of easy recovery runs, long runs and interval runs. I do enjoy the intervals, it’s been nice to see my progress in speed but also self confidence. Put on Annie Mac and I just dance away whilst running. Apart from one Thursday. I had tried to go to The Transport museum but the ice was so bad I couldn’t get anywhere near it. Queue me doing an hours worth of intervals in front of my flat, with a 0.3 mile straight. Oh so boring.
The other major change in my training this year, apart from having a coach in Hunterfit, is yoga. Never would I describe myself as flexible or particularly zen but I have found myself loving the yoga sessions. If you haven’t heard of Yoga with Adriene, I would totally recommend. The right mix of yogi and stretch and not too hippy. Her videos are really honest. One phrase she gives is letting it go either by thinking f of throwing up chalk or glitter and watching it fall. You can guess which image I chose to focus on.
Running is definitely a huge part of my life. With the snow in Glasgow, when I went to Aberdeen, I did a 7am and 4pm Saturday run just to get the training in! Although bad planning did mean a 18 mile run turned into 9 mile run. Loss of phone battery and needing to get back down the road before the bad weather hit. I didn’t beat myself up about it. Previous me would have.
So far so good for marathon training. Journaling all my sessions helps. As does a new pair of Nikes! It’s crazy to think this won’t be the pair I lace up on the day. With so much mileage between now and race day I’ll be onto another pair! Let’s hope I am as positive on the finish line!
