Marathon Monday #3, 11 weeks till race day. The fear is starting to become real, and the plan has changed, some more intervals and some long long runs.
The last 3 weeks have been full of plenty tantrums. Admitting it to myself, makes me realise how stupid they were. The first week (Feb 20th), I was tired post race, so I switched my rest days around. Yet to me this was just not ok, it was weakness not being able to run the next day after 13.1 miles. In honesty, taking a day of, sleeping in and lazing on the sofa after work did me the world of good. Then I had my second ever 16 miler. Having done my first one, the summer before, not taking on any fluids or sugar and essentially feeling hungover the afternoon after. Waking up too tired to run with a group, and having to go out solo in torrential rain is shall we say character building. Headphones in, 2 mile loops around Bellahouston Park. Coffee and Cake when finished.
The week of Feb 27th was even worse, from a mental perspective. After a tough workout at the gym, I missed a run. Then the Tuesday I gave blood, there was a shoutout on the radio needing O- blood, so I felt I had to give. Then the Thursday, I had a conference at work with a 7am train, and not getting home till gone 8:30. So yes, I could have run. Which is what I then beat myself up about. I could have run, but work comes first, as does having life and training balance. Luckily I managed to follow the plan for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Last week was remarkably different. I opted to miss my GRIT workout and just ran. Tuesday Morning is now sprints. Currently 6 x 1 min with 1 minute recovery. So roll out of bed, put on some tunes and sprint outside the flat. Thursday was a really tough track session but I found someone who was a similar pace, and we really pushed each other. All be it he could pretty much always beat me at a sprint finish. Yesterday was a 18 miler, I had a lot of fear about this on Saturday. I ended up breaking it down into 3 x 6 mile runs, with a gel at the end of mile 6 and 12.
Total training distance – 335.4 miles. As you can see I had 2 rest days in a week, did some Gym Workouts (appear either as a white bubble or +XT).
