The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. In my case, more or less to a halt. Being ill, having a Diamond Wedding, a Wedding, late nights at work, it’s fair to say life got in the way. I’ve tried to remain optimistic about the fact life happened. Yes, I missed a lot of training sessions in the last 3 weeks. Having said that, I managed my first ever 20 miler by myself, and did 24 miles yesterday. So I need to remind myself all is not lost. Taking 3 whole days off as rest, is unheard of for me. But my body was clearly in need for it.
Onto the good, my 2 big runs. One much better weather wise than the other. The 20 miler was up in Aberdeen, from Kingswells, along the Lang Straich, down to Bridge of Dee, to the beach, along the beach, back along King Street, up Union Street and finally home. Apart from getting some passive agressive rage due to pedestrians being in my way, the run went really well. How to other people break up long runs? 10×2 miles, 4×5 miles, 5×4 miles.
Yesterday’s run was a bleary eyed early start. Breakfast at 5.15am, back to bed. Out the door by 6:55. What at first was a pleasant misty rain, turned fairly torrential. Resulting in squelchy socks, trainers. I managed all 24 miles, thanks Rebecca, Kristan and Simon for the company. I did get to the point where my feet and brain couldn’t coordinate seeing a puddle, and redirecting to miss a puddle!
Total Training distance – 498 miles.
If you are doing the real Marathon Monday today in Boston a massive good luck. It’s 5 weeks till my big race! Having all the other marathons to watch is definitely good motivation. As is keeping up to date with Nike’s attempt to break 2! 26.2 miles in under 2 hours.
